Yes, it’s November and a fever pitch of knitting & crocheting is continuing. This cool weather brings out the cozy in all of us. I enjoy sitting in my comfy recliner, knitting away, its pure bliss with my little fake electric fireplace on. Now to start finding your fading.
Noveember here in Kansas also means the leaves are scattered everywhere. Our sunsets this time of the year are stunning! I would love a knitted item to represent those gorgeous colors. Enter the Fade phenomena; complying different colors into a visually eye-catching effect. I’m in love with the freedom of colors, yarn weights and stitches this brings to my knitting needles. But wait, you can also use this for a crocheted garments, the rules are still the same, find a color palette that speaks to you and start a pattern that you love. Here is a crocheted version-

What is on your needles this leaf-turning season? Hopefully, Fade something. Confession time, I have a girl-crush on Andrea Mowery, for this reason, I am up to my neck with her Fade creations and if you have not heard of her…well let me introduce you.
Found this pattern first and it is a goal to finish it by spring. Falling in love with anything asymmetrical was my first step into the world of shawls and wraps. Finding this pattern on a blog was happenstance, I was attempting a mystery knit along, found out I didn’t like MKAs. I cheated and looked at the finished project and hated it. So, I had this gorgeous expensive yarn and nothing on my needles. Combing through Ravelry, I found this beautiful wrap and well I have been Fading ever since. Between the shape and the use of color I found something that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go. My hope is that you will discover her lovely knitted patterns as well.
Free your Fade is on my needles currently with my very own color scheme; which is huge since I lack confidence in color choices. Working at a yarn shop, I’ve found that people shy away from bright colors or using colors together. Ultimately, it’s very easy to hide behind black, consequently, pair that with a bright raspberry stripe and it becomes a stunning one of a kind garment.
This shawl is super simple, yet not boring. Between the single lace row and the color changes, I have found it to be very soothing to knit. A simple garter stitch and a supple yarn make this perfect when listening to books, podcast or even T.V.
A Simple Sweater
This may very well be my first sweater; notice how you can change the sleeve length and the overall length of the sweater? One of my daughters will look great in this, but which one to make it for???
The yellow and green in this shawl speaks sunshine and seas at me. I love how it flows from one gorgeous color to another and then the tassels, Great Gadzooks, I love those tassels!!!

Now for the good stuff, Yarn! I managed to put together, five yarns for the Free your Fade pattern. Since it’s November I chose my favorite colors, reds, oranges, yellows plus two matching variegated. Cascade has enough color choices that creating a Fade anything is easy and always beautiful.
This is Cascade Heritage Silk Paints, the variegated yarns (400 yds, 28-32 stitches = 4″, US 1) and Heritage Silk, the solids, ((400 yds, 28-32 stitches = 4″, US 1) – an 85% Merino Superwash wool and 15% Mulberry Silk. This fiber mix is soft, elastic and easy to knit with creating your unique garment.
Catherine and I are here at the Creation Station to help you find your fade; believe me, I do understand how intimidating putting colors together can be. It scares me to move away from black, gray and white, however, there is a world of color out there that can make us feel warm and happy. There are bunches of yarns to choose from, all at differing prices.
During the Christmas Season, you may come up to the shop Saturday afternoons and together we will knit or crochet. We’ll have coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, bring your favorite mug to make it a homey time. This would be a great time to meet new people, make new friends and escape from the frenzy of the outside world. Besides who wouldn’t love three or four hours of uninterrupted stitching?
