We have yarn popping up everywhere! New colors, blends, fibers, and names; all types of yarn for all types of yarnies. Let me tell you about the newbies in our world:
Dream in Color with Cashmere is a silking soft yarn that screams to be squished and squeezed. It is buttery soft with deep, strong color saturation. Each batch is died to order, so if you need several for a single project, we will order them so that they can be dyed just for you within the same dye lot. This yarn is 80% merino wool and 20% cashmere, and we carry 20 different colors!
Encore is here! Forty-eight colors and counting, from pinks to purples to reds to browns! This a workhorse of a yarn. It is 25% wool with a great acrylic blend in a worsted weight. Encore is sure to keep you just warm enough during our mild Kansas winters. Also, an added bonus – it’s machine washable!
Cascade 220 is a beautiful worsted weight merino wool that is also machine washable. This wool is made for those bitter cold days. It will keep you warm and cozy, no matter how brutal the winds become.
Cascade Pacific is another great merino wool blend of 40% wool and 60% acrylic. I love how this yarn works up so quickly, and the colors are bright and cheery! Available in 24 different colors!
Drifter by King Cole is one of our newest to the family, straight from jolly ole England. This yarn does all the color work for you without any yarn changes or carrying any yarn in the back. You need to come in and check out the all 17 gorgeous colors.
Anchor Bay is another Cascade product that fits perfectly into our weather here in the mid-west. This is a 50% merino, 50% cotton. It carries the best of both world and works up into stunning garments. We have a beautiful vest on display that Catherine crocheted. This blend is warm enough to be layered up for the winter but still light enough to keep you styling in spring and summer!
Pendeza is brand new to the shop, a 100% Egyptian mercerized cotton. I have started a sampler shawl that has been written for this yarn. You can purchase the pattern here in the store if you would like to knit this up with me!
Curiosity is another new gradient cake joining us. It is different from the rest because it has a marble running through the yarn so that it almost looks like a tweed. It is a good quality acrylic coming in at 524 yards per cake. Can’t wait to play with this one!
Bamboo Pop has gone out and done it again! They have created a white with speckles as well as solids to match the speckles. I think my head is going to explode. This yarn is going to make some amazing baby and toddler clothes, although I can also see it making a beautiful pullover for my adult daughter.
Here are the reasons we carry so much merino wool – it truly is a miracle fiber!!!
Merino wool is one of the best-kept secrets in the fiber industry that needs to be shouted from the mountain tops, literally. It has some very impressive qualities. Most of the merino breed is raised in Australia, the sheep were gifted to them from Spain way back in the 17th or 18th century. Now, several other countries are getting into the act: America, South Africa, and New
These sheep have a very thin and crimpy hair. Because it is so thin and curly, it is soft to the touch without any of the prickly-ness of traditional wool. It bends easily, so the hair shaft lays next to your skin. This yarn is warm in the cold, but it also helps to keep you cool in the summer. That’s right – it’s like wearing your own HVAC system in your clothing. Because it pulls moisture away from your skin and moves it to the outside to evaporate, it keeps your body temperature even. My favorite part is that also removes body odor!
We are a destination yarn shop featuring all the wool, blends, and quality acrylic you could desire. Plus, we are surrounded by lots of other great and unique shops here in downtown Newton. Ask us where our favorite place to eat is and where we like to shop, and you will have a day’s worth of adventure. We are looking forward to seeing you!
